Kaywoodie White Briar #712 8472 Category B
A squat Bulldog in very good condition, with just some carbon
on the bowl rim and very, very mid tooth "chatter" on the bottom
of the stem.  The stinger is intact, with 3 holes.  The tobacco
chamber is in exc. cond., but I can't say it has a good draw. $35
5.5" long, bowl 1 3/4" tall.  Weight: 1 3/8 oz., 38 grams. Used.
Achtung!  Achtung!  In my never-ending quests to
provide you with more pipes at a great price and me with
more revenue,  I am going to start a new element here,
lifted from the Chinese restaurant menus of my youth
where you could select from Column A, and Column B.
Here's the deal: for $100, including postage in the
continental U.S., you can select 4 pipes, two listed as
Cagegory A, two from Category B, or more specifically,
no more than two from A and as many as 4 from B.  Is that
clear?  In short, I will be valuing the A pipes as being
worth a bit more than the B pipes.  You are welcome to
disagree and vote with your pocketbooks.  You are also
quite welcome to choose any single pipe you like, at the
stated single pipe price, which, not incidentally, should
still be an excellent value.
Not being a master of organization, logistics or anything
else that requires planning and thought, I may have to
revise, or eventually abandon this attempt altogether,
but I hope not.  My "Assorted 4 Pipes" offer is going
fairly well, and this should do the same, but then again,
I'm not buying, I'm selling.  If you have thoughts on what
you see, I am all eyes.  I expect this to be fun for both of
us.  If a pipe doesn't indicate it's in Category A or B, it's
not part of this deal.  Not all pipes in this program will be
placed near one another, but they should all be on the
Specials page.  It will take a little time to build up an
appropriate inventory of these pipes, so please be a bit
patient, and then, when your patience wears thin, don't
hesitate to lambast me for my sloth.  Thank you for your
attention.
P.S. No 'holds' etc. on this page, for my mental health.

Categories:
Kaywoodie Silhouette #712 8524BM Category B
The stinger for this Kaywoodie has 4 holes.  The condition is
excellent, with no tooth marks on the stem and an interesting,
deep blast.  I can't say it has an open draw, but it has a stinger.
6" long, bowl 2" tall.  Weight:  1 3/8 oz., 39 grams. Price: $35
Bari Senior #514 8029JTL Category B
This is quite large, and is in excellent cond., with a wide-open
draw.  The only reason it is on the Specials page is a lage fill
on the shank and a couple of small fills on the bowl.  Used.
6.9" long, bowl 2" high.  Weight: 2 5/8 oz., 74 grams. Price: $35.
Kaywoodie Natural Burl #712 8492 Category B
The stinger here has 3 holes.  The condition of the pipe is
excellent, with the exception of one negligible tooth mark on the
bottom of the stem.  It is a small pipe but certainly not tiny, and
with a good draw, especially for a Kaywoodie with stinger. Used.
4 7/8" long, 1 3/4" tall.  Weight: 7/8 oz., 24 grams. Price: $35
Kaywoodie Custom Grain #2147108 Category B
In excellent condition, but without the stinger, which, in my
opinion is a good thing because the draw is more open.  Kind
of small; probably a group 3 in size.  It has good cross grain
and a lot of Bird's Eye.  The stem is perfectly aligned.  Used.
5.25" long, bowl 1.5" high.  Weight 1 oz., 30 grams. Price: $35
Peterson Standard Shape 303 #712 8520BM Category B
The bowl is in exc. cond., but the non-P-lip stem is chewed up.
Quite usable, but not pretty.  Here's my suggestion.  Get the
303 listed above and you will have two bowls and one stem to
switch between the pipes.  The other 303 stem does fit.  I tried
it and had I been thinking, I would have switched stems before
photographing the pipes, but it's too late now.  Price: $35
5 1/8" long, bowl 1 5/8" tall.  Weight: 1.5 oz., 41 grams.
Bari Senior #514 8037JTL Category A
As much as I admire the Bari Senior, this one has an aspect I
do not like, and that is a tobacco chamber that I consider to be
out of proportion to the thickness of the bowl wall.  If you like
large tobacco chambers, this pipe is also in exc. cond. with an
open draw.  Used. Price: $45
5.4" long, bowl 1.7" tall.  Weight: 2 1/8 oz., 60 grams.
Champ by Larsen & Stigart #712 8467Category A (SOLD)
Always a well made pipe in my experience, this Larsen & Stigart
has an open draw as well as a light feel for a fairly large, but
not huge, Freehand.  The condition is excellent , with a bowl
chamber easily able to accomodate my thumb.  The only
reason I'm not asking more is the grain on one side is only OK.
6 5/16" long, bowl 2 1/8" tall.  Weight: 1 7/8 oz. 53 grams. $45
Medico Sterling Silver #3147389GN Category A
This could go on either the U.S. page or the Misc. page.  I am
here already, so here it stays.  I feel like making up a very tall
story about the meaning of the silverwork on the bowl (very
much like a Dynastic Egyptian scene, but who knows) but who
has the energy.  A tooth mark on the top of the stem is all that
separates this from excellent condition.  The mark is not bad.
5.3" long, bowl 1.8" high.  Weight: 1.75 oz. 49 grams. Used. $45
Ben Wade 200 #712 8458JG Category A
Seemingly small, this pipe has a large tobacco chamber, so you
will not be cheated on the length of your smoke.  The cond. is
uniformy excellent with no dings on the bowl, no marks on the
stem, etc.  If the grain isn't spectacular, well, look at the price.
5.5" long, bowl 2 2/8" tall.  Weight: 1 3/8 oz., 38 grams. $45
Kaywoodie Standard #712 8561 Category A
This has a 4 hole stinger, and perhaps because of that the
draw is pretty good.  The condition is excellent and the stem
free of marks.  It's a group 4 in size.  It even has pretty good
cross grain.  Here's a nice example of Americana.  Used.
5.5" long, bowl 1 15/16" tall.  Weight: 1 1/4 35 grams. $45
Erica Fiamma by Savinelli #514 8176PJ Category B (SOLD)
this is such a sweet straight grain Billiard that despite the fact I
might normally put a pipe like this in one of the 4 packs, in this
instance, it more than deserves to stand on its own.  You can
see the tight grain that runs almost 360 degrees (if talls a bit
over the shank) and know that you will always enjoy looking at
it.  If Dunhill had a pipe with this grain, it would easily be a DR H
There is a fill on the bottom of the bowl, but I think that's it. $35
5.3" long, bowl 1.7" tall.  Weight: 1.25 oz., 35 grams. Used.
North Dane Pipes #514 7939JTL Category B (SOLD 6/21/10
North Dane was made by George Jensen pipes of Denmark.
This is clearly a well made, well designed pipe, with no fills that I
could find, looking with a lens.  The condition here is excellent.
5.2" long, bowl 1.65" tall.  Weight: 1 3/4 oz., 50 grams. $35
Bari Amber #514 7993JTL Category A (SOLD 6/21/10)
In excellent condition with an open draw.  If there are any fills in
the briar, I could not find them with a magnifying glass.  The
rounded rim gives the pipe a soft, easy-going look.  Used.
5.3" long, bowl 1.8" tall.  Weight: 1.75 oz., 49 grams.  Price: $45
4 Assorted Pipes for $50 #514 8230JTL (SOLD 7/25/10)
From the left: A Savinelli Tortuga (perhaps from the tortoise
shell stem) in excellent cond., with a wind cap.  Right of that is a
B.C. Capitan, also in exc. cond.  Right of that is a Kaywoodie
Flame Grain with a repair band and a replacement stem.  Still,
it's a Prince in very good cond. and a wide-open draw.  Far
right is a delicate, nicely formed Bari Opal, also open draw.
Champ by Larsen & Stigart #514 7979 Category B (SOLD)
Champ was a good quality freehand when they were being
made, and this one exhibits fine Bird's Eye on both sides of the
bowl.  The condition is good, with no marks on the stem and
just a touch of wear on the inner rim of the tobacco chamber.
The item that lowers its category is the chip on the sharp
appendage that hangs down from the bowl.  you can see that
chip in the photo on the lower panel.  You can choose to sand
and stain and change the pipe's profile, or you can leave it and
just enjoy the pipe.  That chip is not going to have any impact
on well this pipe performs.  Used.  Price: $35
5.5" long, bowl 1.8" tall.  Weight: 2 3/8 oz., 68 grams. Price: $35
Peterson Standard Shape 303 #712  8510BM Category A
This is a small pipe, and there are a couple of dings on the
bottom of the bowl.  Overall, the pipe is in very good cond., and
the stem is free of marks.  The draw is typical Peterson. Used.
5 1/8" long, bowl 1 5/8" tall.  Weight: 1 1/2 oz., 41 grams. $45
Comoy's Raffaello #514 8963JTL Category B
The Raffaello is a line that was designed by italian pipe maker
Lorenzo, although I don't know what the connection between
the two pipe makers might have been.  This one has flat bottom
and thus sits up.  It is in excellent condition and does have two
fills...one on the flat bottom and one on the shank near the bowl
6.2" long, bowl 1.9" tall.  Weight: 1 3/4 oz., 49 grams.  Used. $35
4 Assorted Pipes for $30 #514 8219SW (SOLD 7/6/10)
From the left: an L.L. Bean pipe, in excellent cond. with very
good cross grain and a wide-open draw.  To its right is a
Country Club made in London and in exc. cond. except for some
dings, more than wear, on the rim.  Its draw is also open.  Next
right is a Kaywoodie with, I'm almost positive, a replacement
stem.  The stem has a long, thin indent along the side, but that
should effect nothing.  The cond. is very good and the draw
open.  Finally, a no-name made in London which looks more
like it was made in Denmark.  The condition is excellent.
Lillehammer Super Extra #514 8172PJ Category B (SOLD)
I think that calling this "Super Extra" may be laying it on a bit
thick, but it has decent cross grain and i do not see any fills.  I
am surprised and confused by the very existence of this pipe,
however.  I remember the Lillehammer pipe, but I did not know it
was still in production.  It is a Norwegian company, and I can't
remember the last time I saw an unsmoked one, as this is.
Everything about the pipe tells me that it is of recent vintage,
except the stem, which is difficult for me to place in time.  It has
the rounded button of old days, but the pipe shape is not old.
5.3" long, bowl 1.7" tall.  Weight: 1.5 oz., 43 grams. New. $35
Stanwell #514 8076 Category B
This is a rather old Stanwell.  It does have a Regis. #, but also,
take a gander at the "S" logo on the stem.  Don't see many that
look like that.  Most of the nomenclature is very thin and hard to
read.  And I do see a fill on the bowl.  The overall condition is
very good, with just a bit of wear on the rim.  The stem is free of
tooth indentations.  Used.  Price: $35.
6.2" long, bowl 1.8" tall.  Weight: 1 1/4 oz., 35 grams.
Mauro Armellini #712 8443BM Category A (SOLD 8/28/10)
Mauro is dead now, and the tradition is being maintained by his
daughter, Wilma, and his grandson, Matteo.  This well made
pipe appears to be the work of the father.  There is a little wear
on the inner rim of the tobacco chamber, but overall the pipe is
in excellent condition.  The draw could be a bit more open. Used
5.5" long, bowl 2.5" tall.  Weight: 2 1/8 oz., 60 grams. $45
Kaywoodie Relief Grain #712 8530 Category B (SOLD 8/27)
Somewhat small, probably Grp. 3 in size, but in exc. cond., with
a crisp chamber rim and well maintained stem.  The stinger is a
3 hole model and the draw is typical of pipes with stingers. Used
5.5" long, bowl 1 5/8" tall.  Weight: 7/8 oz., 25 grams. Price: $35
Custom Bilt #712 8532 Category B (SOLD 8/27/10)
Pretty darn small, but in excellent condition with a wide-open
draw.  This is an original generation Custom Bilt.  Used.
5 3/8" long, bowl 1 3/8" tall.  Weight: 3/4 oz., 23 grams. $35
Kaywoodie White Briar #712 8534 Category B
There is some carbonization on the bowl rim, but no wear, and
the dirt between the beads on the photo above has already
been removed.  The stem is free of marks.  It's a 3 hole stinger.
5 3/4" long, bowl 2 1/8" tall.  Weight: 1 5/8 oz., 45 grams. $35
Peterson shape 313 Standard System #712 8477 Cat. A
This is a beautifully carved pipe, in excellent condition.  The
draw is good for a Peterson, too. The only reason it is offered
so low is because it is very small, about a Group 2 in size.  Used
51/4" long, bowl 1 13/16" tall.  Weight: 1 1/4 oz., 34 grams. $45
Stanwell Hand Made #712 8472 Category B
There appears to be a fill near the top of the bowl...you can
see the spot at the left in the photo above.  Short of that, this is
a very solid pipes, with a character-laden blast.  If not looking at
the "S" on the stem, I always think this is an old Charatan.
Well, it is old.  There is a registration number on the shank.
The condition is excellent and the draw open.  If I had to make
a guess, I'd say that this will be a very good smoker.  Used.
6" long, bowl 2 1/4" tall.  Weight: 2 1/8 oz., 59 grams. $35
Kaywoodie White Briar #712 8553 Category B
This Kaywoodie does not nave a stinger...for pure smoking
purposes, that is a major plus, vastly improving the draw.  The
condition is excellent, including a mark-free stem.  The top of
the rim does have carbon, but that is just natura.  Used.
5 5/8" long, bowl 1 15/16" tall.  Weight: 1 1/4 oz., 36 grams. $35
