Achtung!  Achtung!  In my never-ending quests to
provide you with more pipes at a great price and me with
more revenue,  I am going to start a new element here,
lifted from the Chinese restaurant menus of my youth
where you could select from Column A, and Column B.
Here's the deal: for $100, including postage in the
continental U.S., you can select 4 pipes, two listed as
Cagegory A, two from Category B, or more specifically,
no more than two from A and as many as 4 from B.  Is that
clear?  In short, I will be valuing the A pipes as being
worth a bit more than the B pipes.  You are welcome to
disagree and vote with your pocketbooks.  You are also
quite welcome to choose any single pipe you like, at the
stated single pipe price, which, not incidentally, should
still be an excellent value.
Not being a master of organization, logistics or anything
else that requires planning and thought, I may have to
revise, or eventually abandon this attempt altogether,
but I hope not.  My "Assorted 4 Pipes" offer is going
fairly well, and this should do the same, but then again,
I'm not buying, I'm selling.  If you have thoughts on what
you see, I am all eyes.  I expect this to be fun for both of
us.  If a pipe doesn't indicate it's in Category A or B, it's
not part of this deal.  Not all pipes in this program will be
placed near one another, but they should all be on the
Specials page.  It will take a little time to build up an
appropriate inventory of these pipes, so please be a bit
patient, and then, when your patience wears thin, don't
hesitate to lambast me for my sloth.  Thank you for your
attention.
P.S. No 'holds' etc. on this page, for my mental health.

4 Assorted Pipes for $60 #12186707 (SOLD 1/19/10)
From the right: Comoy's Old Bruyere shape #532.  It has an
original stem, but there is a tooth indentation on the bottom of
the stem.  The rim shows wear, but the pipe is in overall good
condition, with an open draw.  To its left is a Royal Danish in
exc. cond., There are two smooth "thumbprints" on the sides of
the bowl, and there is a slight curve to the pipe.  To the left is a
Super Grain Kaywoodie, with original stem showing a white
cloverleaf.  There is no stinger and the draw is wide open.  On
the left is a Ben Wade Burnsbury made in London, in exc. cond.
Comoy's Guildhall #12186686 Category B (SOLD 1/15/10)
Normally, on a smooth pipe, I show both sides of the bowl
because grain can be a deciding issue for the prospective
buyer, but I forgot to do it on this pipe and frankly, the grain is
very similar on both sides, so there is no need.  The condition
is excellent, and you can see the stem is original.  I was going
to have to disclaim the quality of the draw, and then I thought, "I
bet this sucker still has the original stinger in the tenon" and I
looked, and indeed it does.  If you want to remove that, you
can.  I am not going to mess with an original aspect of the pipe.
5.5" long, bowl 1.5" high.  Weight:  1.5 oz., 43 grams. $35
Peterson Dublin & London #1186217 Category A (SOLD)
I can bring you this amount of value for this small price because
there are a few blemishes on the pipe; the bowl rim is not crisp
and there is a little dark (burn?) spot where the shank meets
the bowl.  It is not a burn-out spot or a burn-out location.  the
stem is original and it looks to have good cross grain.  It is small
5.3" long, bowl 1.65" high.  Weight:  1 oz., 28 grams. Price: $45
Knute #186944BM Category A
I can get my thumb into the bowl, but it the bowl tapers, so it is
not huge at all.  The cond. is exc. and the draw open, smooth
and easy.  Other than that, it is a typical Danish Freehand.
6" long, bowl 1.9" high.  Weight: 2 1/8 oz., 59 grams. Price: $45
4 Assorted Pipes for $30 #12186714BM
From the top:  Gigi's Collection in v. good cond. with open draw.
Below that is a square shanked Wagner Viscount also in v.
good cond.,  It was made by GBD, as determined by the shape
number.  The white pipe is a Dr. Grabow Color Duke in Exc.
cond. and with an open draw.  The final pipe is a Wally Frank in
exc. cond.  All are ready to smoke.
4 Assorted Pipes for $75 #12186712BM (SOLD 1/27/10)
From the bottom: Peterson Shamrock, in exc. cond. To its left is
another Peterson Shamrock, also in excellent condition.  Top
right is a Peterson Premier made in Ireland, in good condition
(a little wear on bowl rim, thin nomenclature, and stem is a tad
loose, but not bad and it is original).  Upper left is a Peterson
System with serious wear on one spot of rim.
B. Barling & Sons #12186607BM Category B (SOLD 1/7/10)
I did not say that this is a Barling; it is stamped B.Barling &
Sons on the shank, and it also does have the standard Barling
stamping on the stem.  Also, that apparent scratch on the bowl
is (was) nothing more than a slight build-up of was, and is
completely gone.  The condition is excellent, and as you can
see, the cross grain pattern is very good.  The draw, too, is
open.  Between the stem and the bend, it is a comfortable pipe.
5.25" long, bowl 11.5" high.  Weight:  1.5 oz., 42 grams. $35
Nording #186777 Category B  (SOLD 1/30/10)
A freehand with a lot of wood, the stem is from a Stanwell
Freehand, but it works quite well with this pipe.  One of the
beauties of Free Hands is that you can frequently find a stem
from another pipe that will fit.  That is not something you can
expect to do with a classic shape.  the condition here is very
good and the draw is open.  The pipe is quite large, but not
huge.  There is certainly enough wood around the chamber.
5.8" long, bowl 2.8" high.  Weight: 2.25 oz., 65 grams. $35 Used
GBD Oxford #12186602BM Category B (SOLD 1/13/10GK)
This pipe is in excellent condition and the draw is open.  It is not
large, but I can get my index finger into the chamber.  The
cross grain is decent.  Used.  Price: $35
5.1" long, bowl 1.75" high.  Weight:  1 3/8 oz., 38 grams.
How The Hell Am I Supposed to Know? #186821 (SOLD)
Everything here is fine.  It is a small, handy Free Hand in exc.
cond., The draw is open, the wood looks hard (judging by the
blast, and the stem is quite possibly hand-cut and certainly
comfortable.  But, I can not make out the brand name.  It could
be one of a dozen Danish makers.  My guess?  Bo Nordh. $35
5.4" long, bowl 1.75" high.  Weight, 1 5/8 oz., 47 grams. Used
Kaywoodie Relief Grain #12186590BM
The stinger is not still intact, but the rest of the pipe is in very
good cond., including the fact that the stem is properly aligned,
which is not always the case with old, screw-stem Kaywoodies.
There is one very minor, very shallow tooth indentation on the
bottom of the stem, and that is about is as far as wear goes.
5.6" long, bowl 1.6" high.  Weight: 1.25 oz., 36 grams. $35
Peterson Shamrock #186815 Category B  (SOLD 2/6/10)
A pipe of indeterminate age because all I can read on the
shank is the "Shamrock" designation.  The overall condition is
good, although there is a little wear on the inner rim of the bowl.
The stem is in great shape, and there is no issue in the
tobacco chamber.  I feel it is rather old, but I can prove nothing.
6" long, bowl 1.8" high.  Weight: 1 3/8 oz., 39 grams. Used. $35
Comoy's Tiger Eye #186765 Category B
Good cross grain, good Bird's Eye, and some egregious teeth
marks on the top and bottom of the stem.  On the bottom of the
stem, as the edge, is one deep tooth mark.  The rest of the
pipe is in excellent condition, with a clean, crisp bowl rim and an
open draw.  Used. Price: $35
4.3" long, bowl 1.8" high.  Weight:  1.75 oz., 49 grams.
Savinelli System Pipe #186938BM Category B
The cond. is near-new, and the size of the tenon allows for a
Savinelli balsa filter.  I can fit my thumb into the bowl.  The draw
is open, too.  Used. Price: $35
5.6" long, bowl 1.8" high.  Weight:  2 oz., 56 grams.
GBD Virgin #12186595BM Category B (SOLD 1/7/10)
The reason this pipe is on the specials page is a deep tooth
indentation on the bottom of the stem.  We all apologize for
that, including the person who did it, I am sure.  So, although
this is a high grade GBD, and the cond. is very good (some
very minor surface dings) that one flaw forces me to put this up
for sale at this beneficial (to you, not to me) price.  Used. $35.
4.6" long, bowl 1.6" high.  Weight:  1 5/8 oz., 46 grams.
Knute #186936BM Category B
This is not a large freehand, or even a large pipe, but the wood
must be quite dense, and a look at the grain pattern in the blast
seems to confirm that.  It is tight straight grain all around.  The
condition is excellent, the draw is open and you have a flat,
comfortable stem.  The bowl capacity is actually quite small; a
forefinger down to the first knuckle is it.  Used. Price:  $35
6" long, bowl 1.55" high.  Weight: 1 7/8 oz. 53 grams.
Savinelli Gold #12186662 Category A (SOLD 1/7/10)
Savinelli can do a great job when they want.  The sandblast,
although on hard wood, and thus not very deep, shows off
great grain pattern.  The vulcanite stem is comfortable and the
draw is open and the drilling is spot on.  Even with the band, it is
light in weight (indicative of well aged and dried briar).  I have to
call this a seemingly excellent smoking instrument.  And with a
good argument, I could be convinced to like the gold band.
5.7" long, bowl 1.8" high.  Weight:  1 3/8 oz., 39 grams. $45
GBD Seventy Six #186932BM Category A
As the pipe is in such good condition, there is not a lot for me
to say that you can not see in the photos.  well, there is one
little tooth mark, not a real indent, on the bottom of the bowl.
The draw is open and everything is as you would hope.  I think
it is a Grp. 4 in size.  Used. $45
4.5" long, bowl 1.8" high.  Weight: 1.5 oz., 44 grams.
Royal Danish #12186459RH Category B
Two flaws detract from the pipe being classified as in excellent
condition: 1) there is a little chip out of the rim, very minor, and
b) teeth marks, not really indentations, exist on the top and
bottom of the stem, right at the button.  They, too are minor.
The draw is completely open.  Used. Price: $35
5.4" long, bowl 1.4" high.  Weight: 2 3/8 oz., 66 grams.
Pre-Republic Peterson DeLuxe #7285719 Category BSOLD
Originally blessed with great Bird's Eye, this pipe's stain has
been so washed-out somehow that it now looks like the kind of
wood that deserves a leather coating.  The stem is actually not
too bad, and the tobacco chamber might be able to deliver a
bunch more good smokes.  This one is for you cheap bastards.
5.4" long, bowl 1.75" high.  Weight: 1.25 oz., 34 grams. $35
Peterson  System #12186611BM Category B  (SOLD 1/8/10)
The pipe, the rim, are in excellent condition.  The
nomenclature is thin and the draw is near non-existent.  There
are minor teeth marks on the stem, both top and bottom.  I was
not able to spot any shape #, but I've missed that before.  used.
5.9" long, bowl 1.9" high.  Weight:  2 1/8 oz., 62 grams. $35
Peterson Kildare #12186599BM Category B (SOLD 1/8/10)
This is a great shape, in my opinion, and the cond. is very
good, with a very minor tooth indent on the top of the stem.
The draw sucks.  sorry.  Used.
6.2" long, bowl 1.6" high.  Weight:  1 oz, 29 grams.  Price: $35
4 Assorted Pipes for $30 #12186711BM (SOLD 1/20/10)
From the far right: Adsorba meerschaum-lined sandblast in exc.
cond., with an open draw.  Below that is a Tudor Rose Squat,
Bent Bulldog in exc. cond.  Next to that is a Peterson look-alike
made by E-K, in exc. cond., with a sterling band.  Finally, at the
far-left, is an Earl of Essex in exc. cond. and with a wide open
draw.  This set agrees with those of all political stripes.
4 Assorted Pipes for $30 #12186710 (SOLD 1/13/10)
From the top left: J. Bessai, which was a shop in Cleveland for
many, many years.  They made many of their own piopes, and
this is probably one.  It is in good cond., and the draw is wide
open.  To the right of that is a Jarl, a very solid old Danish pipe,
in good cond. and open draw, but with a few shallow tooth
indentations.  To its right is a Kaywoodie, with 3 hole stinger
intact.  On its side, you can not see the logo, indicating the
original stem.  Far right is an old (between WW I & WW II) Camy
Luxe in excellent cond.  It was made in France and is worth the
$30 right there.  No question.
4 Assorted Pipes for $30 #12186704
On the bottom is a WDC Milano Ripple Briar in exc. cond., and
with original stem.  The Panel pipe to the right is a meerschaum
lined pipe in only good condition as the rim is a bit chewed up.
It has a replacement stem.  The draw is wide open.  In the
middle is a big green Venturiit is in exc. cond. and has a wide
open draw.  To the left is a Soave, made in England and in exc.
cond.
5 Assorted Pipes for $75 #12186703RH (SOLD 1/15/10)
From the right: A Roma by Savinelli in the Prince shape, in exc.
cond, but with a tooth mark on top of the stem and a very small
one on the bottom.  To its left is a Lorenzo, in near-new cond.,
but with a small tooth mark on the top of the stem.  Left again is
an old Stanwell, with a Regis. #, and also one tooth indent on
the top and bottom of the stem.  Left one more is a Wilke from
NYC, also in exc. cond, but with one tooth indent on top and
one on the bottom.  Finally, a Savinelli Champagne with a
single tooth indentation on the top and bottom of the stem.
4 Assorted Pipes for $60 #12186706(SOLD)
From the right: A Peterson Aran, with a wide open draw (far
better than almost all of their high end pipes....this is funny)
and only very slight wear on the rim keeping it from exc. cond.
Left of the Pete is a Savinelli Autograph-like (but with better
blast...it does not say Savinelli on it, but that is exactly what it is,
and it does have that logo on the stem) "Hand Made" in exc.
cond., and with that bamboo shank extension.  Left of the
Savinelli is a GBD Giant, in exc. cond, and with a fine, open
draw.  Finally, a Comoy's Guildhall Apple, but with a touch of
wear on the stem, keeping it from being in excellent condition
4 Assorted Pipes for $50 #12186702 (SOLD 2/2/10)
From the top: Jobey Pride, in exc. cond.  Down one is a Jobey
Stromboli, also in exc. cond.  Both Jobeys have tight draws.
The large Billiard is a Savinelli Extra Dry, in exc. cond., and with
an open draw.  The Prince is a "Par Shooter" in excellent
condition and made with "Aged Algerian" briar.
4 Assorted Pipes for $50 #12186708BM (SOLD 1/19/10)
From the Bottom: Royal Danish in exc. cond. and with open
draw.  Next up is a sasieni Mayfair.  This is from old stock, and
while it has a few minor dings on it, the overall cond. is very
good.  Above that is a bent Comoy's Castleton, with a twin-bore
stem, and a tiny chip out of the shank near the stem.  The stem
is a replacement.  Top most pipe is a Sasieni Royal Stuart, also
from old wood.  The condition of the bowl is good, but the stem
shows deep teeth marks top and bottom.  Indeed, it is an acrylic
stem, so you know that it is not original.
Bari Opal #186854JTL Category B  (SOLD 2/6/10)
Clean wood, with no fills that I can see and pretty poor grain,
which will have nothing to do with the smoking quality of the
pipe.  The condition is excellent and the draw open.  Used.
5.3" long, bowl 1.8" high.  Weight:  1 5/8 oz., 47 grams. $35
Bari Amber #186874JTL Category A
If you like a thick walled pipe, this is it.  In ratio to the diameter
of the tobacco chamber, this is one thick-walled pipe.  Dig this:
the bowl thickness is 1/2", while the diameter of the tobacco
chamber itself is 1/16" (and a hair) larger than that.  The cond.
of the pipe is excellent and the draw is open.  It has a flat
bottom and sits us just fine.  Grain is decent, too. Used.
5.2" long, bowl 2" high.  Weight: 2.5 oz., 70 grams. Price: $45
Bari Special #186867JTL Category B
it has a very large tobacco chamber capacity, and the cond. is
exc., but there appears to be either a large fill, or a spot that
went unstained on the bottom of the bowl.  Used. Price: $35
5.7" long, bowl 2.2" high.  Weight: 2 7/8 oz., 82 grams.
Savinelli Dry System 186813 Category B
In excellent condition, with a good draw and a large bowl.  The
system referred to here is one which can take a balsa filter, the
benefit of which I have yet to figure out, other than to assist the
economics of the balsa community.  Used.  Price: $35
5.65" long, bowl 2" high.  Weight:  1.75 oz., 48 grams.
Savinelli Non Pareil #186797 Category B
This has to be a good deal.  The condition is very good,
although the bottom of the ferrule near the shank has a little
roughness to it.  I am being picky here, but it is best to
over-inform than under-inform.  The draw is good.  Used.
4.7" long, bowl 2" high.  Weight:  2 oz., 55 grams. Price: $35
Ben Wade Spiral #186804 Category A (SOLD 1/27/10)
This pipe is in excellent condition.  The stem is original and the
grain is pretty good, if not stellar.  The bowl capacity is very
large, being both wide and deep.  Used. Price: $45
6.2" long, bowl 1.95" high.  Weight: 2 1/8 oz., 59 grams.
Lorenzo La Moda Sorrel #186769 Category B
I could probably call this hefty chunk of briar "near-new" if it
were not for the fairly deep tooth indentation on the bottom of
the stem.  What I can do for you, if you remember to ask me, is
to also include a GBD free hand stem that fits very well and has
no tooth mark on it.  You can have both, if you want.  Used.
5.8" long, bowl 2.45" high.  Weight: 3.25 oz., 93 grams. $35
GBD Celebrity Collector #186916BM Category A
"Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!"  (Another one of those
now hackneyed phrases that does not do much more than
irritate.)  It is pipes like this, for which many are eager to pay
only $25 for that impels them to take me up on my 4 for $100
deal, allowing me to divest of a handfull of pipes at one shot,
and you to get a pretty good deal.  The pipe has a rather large
bowl, into which my thumb easily fits.  The cond. is excellent.
5.6" long, bowl 1.9" high.  Weight:  2 oz., 57 grams. Used. $45
